Couturier Shehzarin Batha revealed The House of CQ’s Autumn-Winter 2012 collection of women’s couture pieces that have been kept tightly under wraps from inception. Inspired by the fashion revival and Hollywood movie styles of the late 1940s and 1950s, the Zeitgeist reflects a true touch of glamour in the ordinary.
Relaxed suits and comfortable unrestricted dressing became the order of the day in 1950s Europe, with a host of top designers including Coco Chanel having risen to the occasion to present outstanding looks brought about by a revival in colour and style. The Zeitgeist range focuses on a perfect fit, highlightinga woman’s best features in a style that is both elegant and fun to wear.
From silks to cashmere, chiffons to alpaca – the meticulous art of made-to-measure couture meets a woman’s desire to express her progressive thoughts in striking colours and neo-classic silhouettes. The Zeitgeist chronicles the move towards more individuality and whimsy in what women wear. Bespoke tailored overcoats, suits, jackets, trousers, blouses and dresses designed and made in Melbourne give today’s woman an element of surprise.
Shehzarin Batha, speaking at the opening of the Zeitgeist event, said
“As dazzling independent women in charge of our lives, elegance is our prerogative and we need to be the change we want to see in the world … The Zeitgeist – our runway show and fashion experience – represents a striving for the extraordinary in our time, a renewed focus on the highest value possible in what we wear.”
